Becoming a Member
To become a member of the Speech and Drama Teachers’ Association of WA you must complete an application form, signed by a proposer and seconder, both of whom are Full Members of SDTAWA. This form can then be lodged with the SDTAWA Secretary, who will submit it to Council for consideration. The applicant will be advised of the outcome of the application by the Secretary. SDTAWA has three levels of membership; Full Membership, Country Membership, and Associate Membership.
Annual Subscription
All Full, Associate, and Country Members are required to pay an annual subscription for the current calendar year. The annual subscription is specified on the application form. It is subject to change, as determined by Council. Each calendar year, the Treasurer will issue an invoice to each Member for the annual subscription.
SDTAWA Member Sponsorship Program
In 2022, SDTAWA’s Council established a program to encourage membership of SDTAWA for new teachers and teachers-in-training by waiving the SDTAWA membership fee for an introductory year. SDTAWA Council has pleasure in offering this program again this year.
SDTAWA offers its members opportunities for professional development and networking, and for newer members, the opportunity for mentoring by senior members. SDTAWA Council also recognises the benefits arising from new ideas and approaches brought in by new teachers and teachers-in-training. In order to encourage new teachers and teachers-in-training to become SDTAWA members, SDTAWA’s Council has implemented a sponsorship program whereby upon nomination for membership by a current member, membership fees for new teachers and teachers-in-training will be waived for an introductory year.
Members sponsored under this scheme, having experienced the benefits of membership for an introductory year, will be encouraged to continue as fully paid-up members in subsequent years.
How to apply
- Applicants must complete a nomination form, including their level of study and/or qualifications, and the name and signature of a sponsor (a current SDTAWA member.)
- Applications are to be submitted by 15th January each year as set out on the nomination form, for consideration and ratification by Council.
- New members under the introductory scheme will be welcomed at the AGM each year, held on the third Thursday in February.
